Organizational Culture in relation to managerial decision-making at some private universities in Oman

The study aims at identifying organizational culture in relation to managerial decision-making at some private universities in Sultanate of Oman, and exploring the significance of differences to these requirements according to gender variables difference, years of experience, qualifications, job title, and university.

The study follows correlative approach for its appropriateness to the nature and goals of the study. A simple random sample had been chosen consisting of academics and academic administrators in universities of (Sahar, Nazwa, Sharqia)

The number of participant is (417) individuals, but the actual sample is 167 individuals from the study’s overall community. To answer study’s research questions, a survey was established comprising of 47 articles distributed on two cores: the core of organizational culture which includes 4 domains : values, beliefs, norms, and future perspectives.

The next is the managerial decision-making core. The information was processed by using arithmetic means, standard deviations, proportional importance (core’s rank) and testing the analysis of unilateral variance to identify differences significance related to university variable, qualifications, years of job experience, and by using test  to verify the significance of differences related to gender variable, job title.

The study concludes that

  1. The estimates of the study’s sample individuals on the organizational culture core and managerial decision-making core concerning some private universities (Sahar, Nazwa and Al Sharqia) in Sultanate of Oman have been found high.
  2. There are no differences of statistical significance in the scores of organizational culture in some private universities(Sahar, Nazwa, and Al Sharqia ) according to the estimates of study’s sample individuals related to university’s variables, years of job experience and qualifications.
  3. There are no differences of statistical significance in decision-making in some private universities(Sahar, Nazwa, and Al Sharqia) related to the university’s variables,years of experience and qualifications according to individuals’ sample estimates .
  4. The correlation factor is strong and proportional between organizational culture and managerial decision-making process, as it stands at r = > 75 , which equals to 0.01 at the statistical level, as indicated by the study’s sample opinions; in other words, when the level of organizational culture increases, the level of decision-making process increases highly.

Based on the results of the study, we recommend for: following up on increasing employees’ awareness of institution’s organizational culture through training courses and workshops; in addition to engaging employees in the process of decision-making, goals identifying, policies drawings and institution’s upcoming orientations.
